Art Classes at The Studio, Mount Albert, Ontario

I am a qualified teacher of Visual Arts and have been teaching art to children, teens and adults for 25 years. My studio is located in the small, but creatively vibrant town of Mount Albert which is about a 45 minute drive north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. My studio functions as a place where I go to create, a place where I show my art and a place where I teach visual arts to the children, teens and adults of my community. -- Frank Smith

Children's Art Classes

These classes are organized into Fall, Winter and Spring Sessions of 10 Saturday mornings in each session. The classes run for 1.5 hours with a snack break in the middle. The ages of the children range from 6-12 and they are seated with their own peer groups. Each Saturday is devoted to a different medium including cartooning, drawing, painting, sculpting with clay and odd found objects, printmaking, and model building. Each Saturday also has a new theme to stimulate creative ideas and we often have fun with jokes, storytelling and music. Weather permitting, we will go on sketching trips.

Moms/Dads and Tots

In 45 minute classes on Saturday mornings, I provide fun with art to parents and their pre-school children. Improvement of motor skills, cognitive functioning and social skills is the goal with fun activities such as: painting, drawing, cutting, tearing, stamping, modelling, gluing and many other surprises.

Teens and Adults Art Classes

These classes run on Wednesday evenings and are 2 hours in length. They are organized as a series of relaxed, informative and supportive workshops:

  • Drawing with Tone
  • Drawing in Colour
  • Portraiture
  • Watercolour Basics
  • Acrylic Painting
  • Oil Painting

Classes are taught at a beginners level but those with experience are encouraged to work independently with my over-the-shoulder advice. High school students can work on college portfolio artwork.

Seniors

On Wednesday mornings for 2 hours, a great group of seniors gather to work on oil paintings, acrylic paintings and watercolour paintings. It’s a casual friendly group with lots of creative conversation and a tea break in the middle of the class. Everybody enjoys making paintings out of their favourite photographs, pictures or from their imagination..

Private Instruction and Consultation

By appointment, I give private art lessons and portfolio consultations. High school art students have found these one-on-one consultations very useful when preparing their portfolios for art college and university interviews. Please contact me for further information: fsmith@artsmithstudio.com or call 905-473-5006 (evenings and weekends before 9:30pm).
